Phoebe Burns is a multidisciplinary artist, who resides in her hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. She experiments with different art mediums and art forms to push the possibilities of art. She is a recent graduate of the University of Alabama, where she attended for six years. She earned undergraduate degrees in B.S. of Computer Science and a BFA of Digital Art and Photography with Honors. One of her many mentors is the internationally known, award-winning Chip Cooper. Currently, she runs her art studio,
PB Surrealism, LLC., in Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment.
Phoebe's photography uses a heavy amount of symbolism, surrealism and conceptualism. Her Mixed Media uses figurative abstraction and experimental techniques. These experimentations range from purposefully ripping materials, splattering paint and even burning paper . The ways she has used the mediums have been described as bold and thought provoking due to her original style and ideas. The objective of her art is to create conversation amongst individuals on topics that, she feels, need to be discussed.
Art is not real. So I don't create art as if it is a physical illusion of the real world. I make art based on human life and emotions. Both of those ideas are very abstract. There is no definite way to depict human life because humans have their own individuality. This individuality does not respond to certain situations and ideas the same way. Human individuality are abstract and conceptual. My art tries to capture this individuality through concepts and experimentation.
I use photography and mixed media to capture concepts in a conceptual and experimental manner in order to communicate a question. I communicate questions rather than answers because I can not answer for others. People come to their own answers through questions.
