Phoebe BurNs

Phoebe Burns is an award winning multidisciplinary artist, who resides in her hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. She experiments with different art mediums and art forms to push herself and the possibilities of art.  The objective of her art is to create conversation amongst individuals on topics that, she feels, need to be discussed. To achieve this objective, Phoebe’s photography uses a heavy amount of symbolism and surrealism to give life to her concepts.  Her Mixed Media uses figurative abstraction and experimental techniques to give her artwork a feeling of raw emotion. These experimentations range from purposefully ripping materials, splattering paint and even burning paper. The ways she has used the mediums have been described as bold and thought provoking due to her original style and ideas.

She is a graduate of the University of Alabama, where she attended for six years. She earned her undergraduate BFA of Digital Art and Photography with Honors. One of her many mentors is the internationally known, award-winning Chip Cooper. Currently, she runs her art studio, PB Surrealism, LLC., in Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment.

Artist Statement

Art is not real. So I don't create art as if it is a physical illusion of the real world. I make art based on human life and emotions. Both of those ideas are very abstract. There is no definite way to depict human life because humans have their own individuality. This individuality does not respond to certain situations and ideas the same way. Human individuality are abstract and conceptual. My art tries to capture this individuality through concepts and experimentation.

I use photography and mixed media to capture concepts in a conceptual and experimental manner in order to communicate a question. I communicate questions rather than answers because I can not answer for others. People come to their own answers through questions.
